Connectivity is one of the largest recurring bills in a Filipino household, and it is also one of the easiest to overpay. Postpaid plans bundle data allowances most people never finish, while promo-based prepaid loading can quietly cost more per month than a plan if you top up several times a week. Home fibre pricing changes constantly, and advertised speeds are shared-line maximums rather than guarantees.
We look at the three things that decide real value: the cost per usable gigabyte, whether coverage in your specific barangay actually supports the technology being sold, and the contract terms — lock-in period, early-termination charges, and what happens to the bundled handset or router if you leave.

Mobile and internet questions
Is prepaid or postpaid cheaper in the Philippines?
Prepaid is cheaper for light and irregular users because you pay only for the promos you load. Postpaid becomes cheaper once your monthly data use is high and steady enough that you would need to buy multiple prepaid promos to match the plan allowance. Add up three months of actual load spending before switching.
Which network has the best coverage?
Coverage is local, not national. Smart and Globe both have wide LTE footprints with different strong areas, and DITO's coverage is denser in major urban centres. The practical test is asking neighbours on each network or buying a cheap prepaid SIM and testing for a week before committing.
Do I need fibre if I already have mobile data?
If more than one person works or studies from home, or you stream in the evening, a fixed line is normally cheaper per gigabyte and far more stable than mobile data. For a single light user, a good mobile plan with hotspot capability can be enough.
Can I keep my number when switching networks?
Yes. Mobile number portability is mandated in the Philippines, so you can move your number between networks and between prepaid and postpaid, subject to settling any outstanding balance or lock-in obligation with your current provider.
